Radiation Therapy

Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to precisely target and treat cancer. With advanced treatment technology and highly personalized planning, our team is able to focus radiation directly on the tumor while minimizing exposure to surrounding healthy tissue. Radiation therapy may be used to destroy cancer cells, relieve cancer-related symptoms, reduce the risk of recurrence, or support other forms of treatment.

At OncoLogics, every treatment plan is carefully customized to each patient’s unique diagnosis, tumor type, size, location, and overall health needs. Your radiation oncologist will review all available treatment options and develop a personalized care plan based on nationally recognized treatment guidelines and the latest advancements in cancer care.

Radiation therapy may be used on its own or combined with other treatments such as chemotherapy, immunotherapy, surgery, or hormone therapy as part of a comprehensive cancer treatment approach.

Treatment can be delivered externally using advanced linear accelerator technology (external beam radiation therapy) or internally through targeted radiation sources placed temporarily or permanently within the body (brachytherapy).

Available Types of Radiation Therapy

Different types of radiation are used to treat specific types of cancer.

3-D CRT

(3-Dimensional Conformal Radiation Therapy)

Uses advanced three-dimensional imaging to map the exact size, shape, and location of a tumor. This allows radiation oncologists to create a highly customized treatment plan that precisely targets cancer while helping reduce exposure to nearby healthy tissue.

EBT

(Electron Beam Therapy)

Delivers radiation to tumors and lesions located on or near the surface of the skin. Because the radiation does not travel deeply into the body, it can effectively treat superficial cancers while helping preserve surrounding healthy tissue and cosmetic appearance.

HDR

(High Dose Rate Brachytherapy)

Places a highly targeted radioactive source directly into or near the tumor for a short period of time. This approach allows a powerful dose of radiation to be delivered precisely to the treatment area while helping reduce treatment time and exposure to surrounding tissue.

IGRT

(Image-Guided Radiation Therapy)

Uses advanced imaging before and during treatment to accurately locate and track the tumor’s position. By accounting for normal body movement and changes in anatomy, IGRT helps improve precision and ensure radiation is delivered exactly where it is needed.

IMRT

(Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy)

An advanced form of radiation therapy that adjusts and shapes the intensity of radiation beams to match the tumor. This highly precise approach helps deliver an effective dose to the cancer while minimizing radiation exposure to nearby healthy organs and tissue.

PBI

(Partial Breast Irradiation)

Targets radiation only to the area of the breast where cancer was removed rather than treating the entire breast. For select patients with early-stage breast cancer, this focused approach can shorten treatment time while maintaining excellent cosmetic outcomes.

SGRT

(Surface Guided Radiation Therapy)

Uses advanced surface-mapping technology to monitor patient positioning and movement throughout treatment without additional radiation exposure. This technology helps improve accuracy, comfort, and consistency by ensuring the patient remains in the correct position during each session.

SRS

(Stereotactic Radiosurgery)

A highly precise, non-surgical form of radiation therapy designed to treat tumors and abnormalities in the brain and spine. SRS delivers an intense, focused dose of radiation in a small number of treatments while helping protect surrounding healthy tissue.

Utilizing AlignRT® Technology for Radiation Therapy

When receiving radiation therapy, it’s important to ensure the radiation reaches the right place, while avoiding healthy cells and vital organs. Our advanced AlignRT® technology helps protect you during treatment when receiving Surface Guided Radiation Therapy (SGRT).

By tracking your skin surface in real time using 3D camera technology, AlignRT® helps ensure that you are in the intended position, with high accuracy and often fewer bothersome devices, providing comfort and safety. If you move even a millimeter, radiation can be automatically shut off until you are back in the correct position. This can be used across all cancer sites and can eliminate the need for tattoos and skin marks for certain patients.
