An integrated PET/CT scan is the most advanced imaging technology for the detection and evaluation of cancer. The whole-body scan generates high-resolution images of abnormal activity and its location. Abnormal biological activity often takes place before physical changes can be identified by other imaging exams such as:
A PET/CT scan provides images of the entire body, detecting primary and secondary disease earlier and more accurately than any other imaging technology.

You will be rescheduled if you are more than 20 minutes late for your scan or have had anything to eat or drink other than water within the past 6 hours
Do not do any strenuous activities such as weight lifting, aerobics, running or sports of any kind 24 hours prior to your scan.
It is acceptable to take most medications unless you have diabetes.. If you have diabetes, please call our office for instructions. If you take diuretics (water pills), please call your doctor to see if it is safe to discontinue taking them on the day of your exam.
Wear warm comfortable clothing that has no metal. You will be asked to remove all metal objects including snaps, zippers, buckles and jewelry prior to your scan.
Bring your current insurance card(s) and photo ID along with a copay/payment for service.
If you are a tobacco user, do not smoke or use tobacco at least 12 hours prior to your scan.
Do not eat or drink anything other than water.
Please do not chew gum, suck on mints/lozenges/cough drops, or drink any coffee.

A small amount of radioactive sugar is injected into your bloodstream. The radioactive sugar circulates in your body while you relax for approximately one hour. You then lie on a bed that slowly passes through the scanner. The PET/CT scan takes approximately 30 minutes. After the scan, you will be on your way.
Yes. The risk associated with PET/CT scanning are minimal. Radioactive sugar, also known as glucose, is short-lived and leaves your body quickly. The radioactive sugar is not a contrast agent. The radiation exposure associated with PET/CT scanning is similar to that associated with conventional imaging exams.
You may be required to pay a co-payment or deductible at the time of service. Please feel free to call us to discuss your financial responsibility or to ask any questions about your PET/CT scan.
We accept most insurances and self pay. A patient care coordinator will help review your coverage.
Insurance companies and Medicare generally cover a portion or all of the cost of a PET/CT scan for cancer. A patient care coordinator will verify your insurance coverage.
A patient care coordinator will work with you individually to create a payment plan based on your ability to pay.
